Denise

Denise

Nursing Care Team

Denise’s path into veterinary medicine began with a simple realization during her high school years. While volunteering at a veterinary hospital, she discovered that the clinical environment felt right to her in a way nothing else had. She had always known she wanted to work in the field of medicine, but that early experience showed her exactly where she belonged. Being part of patient care and witnessing the impact medical support could have on animals and their families confirmed her direction.

That early interest continued to guide her as she pursued formal training. Denise completed her veterinary technician program, during which she joined Sunrise Pet Hospital as part of her externship. Spending time in the clinic allowed her to build confidence, apply what she was learning, and gain valuable hands-on experience. After completing her externship hours, she was excited to learn that a position had become available, giving her the opportunity to continue growing as part of the Sunrise team.

As a Veterinary Assistant, Denise enjoys the variety that comes with patient care. She is especially interested in the differences between species and appreciates that every patient requires an individualized approach. This variety keeps her engaged and constantly learning, reinforcing her interest in both medicine and anatomy.

Denise particularly enjoys performing X-rays, where she can apply her knowledge of anatomy in a practical setting. She also enjoys performing fecal flotations and examining results, finding satisfaction in identifying positive findings that help guide treatment decisions. These responsibilities allow her to actively contribute to diagnostics and patient care.

Denise values being part of a clinical environment where learning never stops. Each day at Sunrise Pet Hospital strengthens her skills and deepens her appreciation for veterinary medicine. She takes pride in supporting patients through careful attention, adaptability, and a genuine interest in the science behind their care.

Megan

Megan, RVT

Nursing Care Team

Megan’s connection to Sunrise Pet Hospital began quietly, shaped by curiosity and a genuine desire to help animals. While still in high school, she began volunteering at the hospital, spending her time learning, observing, and stepping in wherever support was needed. Being present during moments of care and concern showed her how much a steady, capable presence can matter to both pets and the people who love them.

Those early experiences helped Megan recognize what she wanted from her future. She was drawn to work that felt meaningful and hands-on, something that allowed her to make a real difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them. Veterinary medicine offered that opportunity, combining practical skill with close human connection. While her love of animals had always been there, it was the ability to support families during important moments that truly inspired her to pursue this path.

After completing high school, Megan continued her education by enrolling in a veterinary technician program. Throughout her studies, she remained part of the Sunrise Pet Hospital team, growing from a volunteer role into a part-time position and eventually stepping into a full-time role after graduating. With each step, she built confidence and developed strong clinical skills through hands-on experience.

As a Veterinary Assistant, Megan enjoys the balance between technical patient care and client interaction. She likes performing blood draws and placing IV catheters and values the focus and precision those tasks require. Being directly involved in patient care is an important part of her role and allows her to contribute meaningfully to treatment each day.

Megan also values working with clients during appointments. Taking time to comfort pet owners and help explain their pet’s medical needs is something she finds important. Through clear communication and dependable support, she helps both the medical team and pet families move through the care process with greater understanding and confidence.

Kylie

Kylie

Nursing Care Team

Kylie’s understanding of veterinary medicine didn’t come from a textbook or a long-term plan. It came from being present in the clinic and seeing what it actually means to care for animals day after day. After being introduced to Sunrise Pet Hospital by someone close to her, Kylie reached out for the opportunity to volunteer, hoping to gain experience in a field she felt drawn to. What she found was a place where learning happened through doing, observing, and helping wherever possible.

Spending time in the hospital allowed Kylie to see every side of patient care. From quiet moments of observation to hands-on support, each day offered something new to learn. Volunteering and working at Sunrise helped her understand the responsibility involved in caring for animals and supporting the people who love them. It also confirmed that this was the field she wanted to dedicate her time and energy toward.

Now working as a Veterinary Assistant, Kylie enjoys assisting in any way she can. She values being part of a team and appreciates the opportunity to continue learning through experience. One part of her job she enjoys the most is being hands-on with the animals. Working closely with patients allows her to see their different personalities, behaviors, and needs, giving her a deeper understanding of animal care beyond just one perspective.

Kylie finds fulfillment in being able to help, whether that means supporting the medical team, learning a new skill, or spending time with a patient who needs extra care. Every interaction helps build her confidence and strengthens her interest in veterinary medicine.

Her experience at Sunrise Pet Hospital continues to shape her path forward. Through hands-on learning and daily involvement, Kylie is building a strong foundation as she works toward her goal of becoming a veterinarian, guided by curiosity, dedication, and a genuine desire to help animals.

Metzli

Meztli

Nursing Care Team

For Meztli, working with animals has always been tied to learning, curiosity, and a growing sense of responsibility. As a child, trips to the library often meant checking out books on animal care and spending time reading through encyclopedias. That early interest stayed with her and gradually developed into a clear goal to work in veterinary medicine.

A defining experience came while working at Inland Valley Humane Society as a kennel technician. Caring for shelter dogs in a high-volume environment gave Meztli a close look at the realities many animals face. Watching dogs become withdrawn while waiting for adoption, seeing shelters reach capacity, and understanding the consequences of overpopulation left a lasting impression. That experience shaped her interest in shelter medicine and strengthened her commitment to educating others on the importance of spaying, neutering, and preventive care.

Meztli joined Sunrise Pet Hospital in March 2026, seeking a privately owned clinic where she could continue building her skills. In her role as a Veterinary Assistant, she supports patient care while also connecting with clients in meaningful ways. She values the opportunity to communicate with Spanish-speaking clients, helping ensure they feel understood and informed when making decisions about their pets’ health. She also works as a relief Veterinary Assistant in surrounding communities, helping provide accessible vaccines and preventive care.

Outside of the clinic, Meztli continues to expand her knowledge through hands-on experience, including shadowing at an equestrian hospital. Her long-term goal is to pursue a veterinary degree and continue growing within the field.

At home, Meztli shares her life with her dog, Buki, whose intelligence and love of fetch reflect the same energy Meztli brings to her work. Whether cooking new dishes, exploring the outdoors, or learning something new, she continues to build on the passion that first started with a simple curiosity about animals.

Margie

Margie

Customer Service Representative

Margie’s journey into veterinary medicine began in an unexpected way, guided by openness, curiosity, and a willingness to step into the unknown. Her professional background was originally rooted in the human medical field, where she built a strong foundation in care, organization, and compassion. When she began submitting résumés to various hospitals, she never imagined that one submission, sent by her husband, would change the course of her career.

When Margie was invited to interview at an animal hospital, she walked in without fully knowing what to expect. The experience left a lasting impression, and just two hours after returning home, she received a call offering her the position. That moment marked the beginning of a career she has continued to build with dedication and heart. Since joining Sunrise Pet Hospital in November of 2007, Margie has grown into a trusted and deeply valued member of the team, bringing more than two decades of experience in the veterinary field.

In her role as Receptionist, Margie is often the first point of contact for clients, offering reassurance, warmth, and a friendly smile. She also assists in the back with procedures and tasks when needed, allowing her to support both patients and her team in meaningful ways. What she enjoys most is building genuine bonds with clients and providing comfort and love to the animals entrusted to the hospital’s care. She also values the people she works alongside, describing her coworkers as family.

Margie’s path into veterinary medicine may not have been planned, but it became exactly where she was meant to be. Each day offers her the opportunity to connect, support, and care, and she approaches her work with gratitude and pride. Her compassion, adaptability, and dedication continue to shape the welcoming environment that clients and patients experience every day at Sunrise Pet Hospital.

Mary

Mary

Customer Service Representative

Mary’s connection to animals has always been rooted in empathy, and compassion. She has long been drawn to the quiet ways animals communicate, offering unconditional love and trust without expectation. Being able to return even a small portion of that love through care and understanding is what continues to motivate her work in the veterinary field.

Mary’s journey into veterinary medicine began more than two decades ago at Eye Care for Animals. It was there that she developed a lasting affection for creatures of all sizes and learned how impactful compassionate care can be. Over the years, she wore many hats within the medical field, from reception to managing teams of doctors and technicians. Each role strengthened her ability to support both patients and the people who care for them, shaping her into a calm, knowledgeable presence during stressful moments.

Before joining Sunrise Pet Hospital, Mary also owned her own business as an esthetician specializing in anti-aging and acne treatments while working in the mortgage industry. These experiences sharpened her ability to connect with people, listen carefully, and provide guidance during important moments, skills that translate seamlessly into her role at the front desk.

As a receptionist, Mary sees her role as more than coordination and communication. She is the first point of contact for pet parents and takes pride in offering comfort, reassurance, and thoughtful advice. Creating a family-like experience during emotionally charged situations is central to how she approaches her work, always with the goal of strengthening the human–animal bond.

Outside of the clinic, Mary’s life is full and deeply rooted in family. She helps care for her mother’s many pets, including several cats, two dogs, and a tortoise. At home, she shares her life with her husband of ten years, their three children, her cat Merlin, and her dog Lady Persephone. Together, they reflect the love, patience, and compassion Mary brings with her every day at Sunrise Pet Hospital.

Isela

Customer Service Representative & Nursing Care Team

Isela’s path into veterinary care was shaped by love, loss, and an unbreakable bond with a dog named Rocco. When Rocco was diagnosed with stage four renal disease, Isela knew their time together would be limited. She decided then to focus on making his last days happy. Together they spent as much time as possible at the beach, Rocco’s favorite place. The memory of his joyful sprint and tail wag as he ran freely across the sand stays with her even now. That experience deeply inspired Isela to hone her purpose: to bring comfort, care, and love to animals during their most vulnerable moments.

That calling led Isela into the veterinary field, where she found fulfillment supporting both patients and their families. She became certified as a technician assistant through Heritage College and later joined Sunrise Pet Hospital after a former coworker recommended the position. Her dual role as receptionist and technician assistant allows her to connect with clients while also providing hands-on care to pets throughout the day.

Isela grew up in Costa Mesa, California, with her parents and two younger sisters. One of her strongest influences was her high school art teacher, Mrs. Payne, who introduced her to different artists and inspired a lasting appreciation for creativity. She also enjoyed being part of an after-school program that helped elderly neighbors with yard work.

At home, Isela shares her life with her dog Korra, her constant adventure companion, and two cats, Rogue and Rapture, both affectionate and food-loving. She also treasures early morning sunshine, dog park visits, exploring new coffee shops, and spending time with her two daughters.

In her work, Isela enjoys offering comfort to pets who are not feeling well and building trusting relationships with their owners. She loves being a familiar, reassuring presence and jokes that she gets dog hugs all day. Those moments of connection are what make her work especially meaningful. Through it all, Isela brings warmth, humor, and heart to her role at Sunrise Pet Hospital.
