Dr. Jang and his foster Boxer Buddy

Dr. Jay Jang

Practice Owner / Veterinarian

Dr. Jay Jang grew up in Chicago suburbs and attended University of Illinois for undergraduate as well as veterinary school.  After 8 long years at the school, he graduated in 1996 and moved out to our sunny state of southern California.  He immediately went to work in a high volume 7 doctor practice in Whittier where he fine tuned his medical and surgical skills.  After seven years there,  Dr. Jang decided to take on the new challenge of being his own boss.  He acquired Sunrise Pet Hospital in 2003 and has since greatly enjoyed being the neighborhood veterinarian.  As part of his services to the community, he helps with Greyhound, German Shepherd, and Boxer rescue organizations as well as hosting his own cat adoption center at his practice.  When off of work, Dr. Jang enjoys his quality family time with his lovely wife, his 3 boys, and his dog Sparky.  He is also a sports enthusiast and serves actively in his community church.

Dr. Jay Jang has deep roots in the community he serves.

These photos offer a glimpse into the team and family that are an important part of his life beyond the practice.

Dr. Carol McLaughlin

Dr. Carol McLaughlin

Veterinarian

One moment that shaped Dr. Carol McLaughlin’s future in veterinary medicine began with a small, long-haired dachshund puppy named Schwartzi. While working as a veterinary assistant before veterinary school, she helped care for the critically ill puppy as he fought parvovirus. Day after day of treatment slowly turned into progress, and eventually Schwartzi was strong enough to go home. What stayed with Dr. McLaughlin was not only his recovery, but the years that followed. She continued to see him annually for exams and vaccines and remained connected with his owner for many years. Watching that once fragile puppy grow into a healthy adult made the impact of veterinary care deeply personal and lasting.

That experience confirmed her calling and set the course for a career dedicated to preserving the human animal bond. Dr. McLaughlin believes that good veterinary medicine allows families to spend more quality time with the pets they love, and that belief continues to guide her approach to patient care today. As a relief veterinarian at Sunrise Pet Hospital, she is known for her thoughtful, compassionate style and her focus on supporting long, fulfilling lives for companion animals.

Dr. McLaughlin pursued her undergraduate education at Cal Poly Pomona before earning her veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Following graduation, she completed a general small animal medicine and surgery internship at a large specialty hospital in Los Angeles. This advanced training provided broad clinical exposure and strengthened her foundation in both medical and surgical care, preparing her to confidently support a wide range of patient needs.

Originally from upstate New York, Dr. McLaughlin moved to California in third grade and has called it home ever since. Outside of the clinic, her life revolves around her three energetic dogs: an older Australian Shepherd named Tuck, a Border Collie named Welly, and a Corgi mix named Bean. She trains and competes with them in herding, agility, scent work, and other dog sports, finding great satisfaction in watching consistent training turn into successful runs and shared achievements.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. McLaughlin is deeply involved in rescue efforts. She has fostered many dogs over the years, including pregnant dogs and entire litters, and now focuses on fostering adult dogs. Helping neglected or discarded dogs rebuild trust, gain confidence, and transition into loving homes remains one of the most meaningful extensions of her work beyond the exam room.
